Community Garden

Cultivating Growth and Community
This Community Garden will foster environmental sustainability, social responsibility, essential life skills, food awareness, and hands-on learning in farming and cooking for all our students. Beyond the curriculum, this space is envisioned as a vibrant community hub for gatherings of all kinds, creating a special place for everyone at Montcrest.

Since announcing the Community Garden in the spring of 2024, we’ve been actively working to bring this vision to life. While initial timelines have been adjusted due to necessary permit approvals with the city, this period has presented some exciting opportunities for growth and refinement.

Our dedicated architectural team has utilized this time to reimagine the garden’s design with an even stronger focus on enhanced sustainability practices and innovative programming possibilities for our students. This thoughtful approach ensures a long-term vision that can adapt and expand across our current and future properties.

Furthermore, this pause has allowed our students, teachers, and community partners to build a robust foundation for integrating the garden into our curriculum. We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of our donors, the Montcrest Parents’ Association, and the many dedicated volunteers within our community who continue to champion this project.

Phase 1 of the outdoor space at the rear of 664 Broadview Avenue will include, but is not limited to:

  • Outdoor Kitchen with BBQs, pizza ovens, and space for students to prep, cook, and serve food
  • Garden beds for growing fruit, vegetables, flowers and herbs
  • Firepit with a patio and seating area for community events

Be a Part of This Growing Initiative
You can still show your support and become a lasting part of the garden by purchasing a personalized leaf or bird. These beautiful installations within the garden will honour our generous donors.

Every contribution, no matter the size, plays a vital role in helping us achieve our fundraising goals and create this exceptional space for our students and community. To make a donation and learn more about supporting the Community Garden, please select your preferred option below.

We share the inspiring words of a Montcrest student who reminds us of the enduring importance of our mission: “When we think about the legacy we are building for future generations at Montcrest, it is difficult because the future is so uncertain. Learning is always changing. The only thing we know is not changing is the importance of sustainability. When I say sustainability, I mean conservation and taking care of our environment.

Thank you for your continued belief in the transformative power of the Montcrest Community Garden.
