Challenge and support play a vital role in helping us meet students where they are and providing the optimal environment for their growth.

Student Profiles

Each child has a Student Profile that helps guide their learning journey. These profiles include a Personal and Learning Profile, which captures the student's unique identity. This identity is carefully crafted with input from the child, their family, and their teachers.

This valuable tool for student growth is created through a collaborative process, intentionally incorporating student voice alongside input from families and teachers.

Goal Setting

Goal setting is a cornerstone of every child's learning journey. With the guidance of their teachers, students craft challenging, impactful, and authentic goals. They learn to pinpoint stretch areas for growth identified in their Student Profile and, more importantly, articulate how their unique strengths can serve as powerful tools to achieve these aspirations.

Co-Teaching

Our Student Success Team (SST) and homeroom teachers collaborate through various co-teaching models to provide every student with support and challenge. Our team approach enables us to respond appropriately to students' needs. We form flexible, intentional groups to deliver targeted support, whether it's short-term help to improve math skills, an enriched curriculum for deeper learning, or specific remedial programs, such as The Empower Reading program.

Small Class Support Model

Small Classes are one of Montcrest's specialized support models. Recognizing that the world needs different thinkers, our small classes are designed specifically for neurodiverse students who benefit from a personalized approach to learning.

With a consistently low student-to-teacher ratio (typically 8:1), the model provides a structured, evidence-based environment where experienced special education teachers focus on teaching students "how to do school"—discovering their unique learning strengths. Support, including explicit Executive Function instruction and systematic material review, is provided to unlock the grade-level curriculum. Crucially, as students progress, these supports are gradually adjusted to foster self-advocacy and growing independence, preparing them for success beyond Montcrest.

Montcrest is an excellent school and a warm community. They keep class sizes small to respond to a wide variety of learners and are great at providing extra support when needed.
