Two years ago, a dedicated group of parents, staff, and friends came together with a shared vision: to reimagine an underused corner of our campus. We envisioned a 'Living Classroom' where our JK students discover the life cycle of a seed, and our Grade 8 students explore how healthy soil acts as a natural filter for our local water systems—ensuring students across our school will have an opportunity to take learning outside.
That spark of an idea connects deeply to our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan. As we lean into "Limitless Learning," the Community Garden brings that possibility to life, ensuring that "Adventure Every Day" is a tangible reality for every student. Our campus has always sat at the nexus of the city and the forest valley; the Community Garden connects the two. By building our "farm" in the middle of those two places, we’re creating a learning environment that is uniquely Montcrest.
Of course, a vision this bold can only be realized with the support of our community. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our current and alum families, and today, we are thrilled to announce:
Together, we have raised $1.2 million for the Community Garden.
This milestone ensures that the construction of the kitchen pavilion and garden spaces is fully funded. Our students will soon be tending to the gardens they’ve planted, harvesting and cooking their own produce in the kitchen, and gathering as a community in a versatile new event space. We are also excited to include a firepit donated by the Class of ‘25—a special space designed for our oldest students to connect.
While the Community Garden will always be a project for us to nurture and enhance together, this funding ensures the completion of the physical "Living Classroom" where our students will learn and grow alongside the gardens they plant. Over the coming months, you will see the site transform from a vision into a reality. We cannot wait to welcome you to experience it firsthand
