In the fall of 2016 Montcrest School received a Go Wild Community Grant from the World Wildlife Fund for a birdhouse project with our Grade 2 students. Our Grade 2 classes worked with Mr. Blakey to build birdhouses tailored specifically to various local species which they then placed in Riverdale Park. Students had investigated issues with bird populations locally and globally, and were very excited to build upon their learning by enriching the habitat for birds in Toronto. The generous WWF-Canada grant enabled the school to purchase materials for the birdhouses, bedding, predator prevention measures, and physical supports.

The project was featured on CBC Toronto’s evening news on October 28th, 2016.
